A potpourri of nothing

General observations (not to be confused with Cap'n Obvious!)

Derrek Lee: 50 at bats, 10 hits, 9 rbis

Micah Hoffpauir: 17 at bats, 6 hits, 5 rbis

Write your own punch line for that one -- I am starting to worry about Lee as 50 at bats is not so small a sampling anymore. He had a poor spring and is off to a poor start. Thoughts?

For more on sample sizes, see VFTB and get reamed for having an opinion. Well, not really reamed. More like nitpicked.

It is very nice to be 8 and 4 out of the gate. That's a good start, and it's been done mostly without Milkit Badly. Even when he's been there, he hasn't been there. He's what? 1 for 18 or some such nonsense.

Harden is looking good -- even in his loss, he had good stuff; just no command. His other two games have been terrific.

I told you in the spring that I thought Heilman had a great arm -- I think he's becoming the other "go to" guy in the pen. Lou seems to be developing trust in him. I like him better as a starter or long man with his array of pitches and movement, but as long as he gets it done. It's a long year -- he'll probably get to do it all at one time or another.

Kevin Gregg remind anyone else of Bobby Howry? Good fastball, but straight. I wouldn't throw him against the middle of the order hitters if I didn't have to. Let Marmol do that. Or even Heilman.

I am in the great state of Minnesota -- where I laugh at everyone I meet because of Al Franken. Finally. A state stupider than either Illinois or California! Ha.

More later. Or not.

say hi to Governor Body for me...

every game that passes, I see what we lost not getting Dunn. Could have used him at first to give DPLee on off day against a dominant righty...and is Dunn REALLY worse than Hoffy Dog in RF? I won't apologize for calling out the Milk Man...he was beating his pregnant wife for fuck sake...but as long as it was off the field, the VFTB morons don't care...I guess that's what 101 years of futility'll do to ya...win at all cost...pay $20 million to a wife beating injury machine. I'll give even money right now that the guy won't hit 15 jacks or hit .250, or play 100 games...on any or all...

and it's money I have earned that I am offering to wager, not my church's or some lefty wingnut union...

Didn't Lefty Wingnut pitch for the Cubs in the 80's?

Glad to hear from you sherm on consecutive days. I think that you are good enough, smart enough, and doggone it, people like you.

As a DLee apologist, he had 2 multi RBI HR's knocked down by the wind last night. Sample size may be an irritating catch phrase, but it does have some validity. Give it till the end of May for a good representation. That said, Hoffpauir does need more ABs, perhaps a reason to baby Milkit along.
Lou may be sold on Heilman for the same reason I'm coming around to him....other choices not named Carlos (or Angel, perhaps) have ben bad choices. I think I'll start calling him Sig Heilman, as everybody knows sig heil is kraut for hail victory.
side note: Milkit's obp is 308, ahead of AAron, milket, and the car jumper as well as DLEE (has he hit into a DP yet?)

Prediction: Milkit will spend much of the year on the DL as Micah tears up the league leaving Hendry scratching his head saying, so we had our left handed bat all the while.

Dlee numbers may jump when the vines turn green and the wind turns around. Power numbers are always down at Wrigley early on although last year Dlee hit 8 in April and 12 the rest of the way. If he stays cold go to Micah at 1b, assuming Milkit can play more than 1 game in a row.

Props to Hendry on this one which gets forgotten, Ted Lilly has been a great signing, a solid starter in the rotation. Has he ever missed a start? Always gives his team a chance to win. Props to Lilly and Hendry for getting him 3 years ago.

The cubs last year were 1-3 after 4 games. that extrapolates to a 120 loss season. that did not happen. If you really want to know what will happen in the future, do it in retrospect.

This years cubs team is worse than last year. Don't tell me to be patient because I can tell by their demeanor that they don't have it. It sucks!!! j Salzeider
