Genesis

What was the line from Genesis? In the big inning? Seems that we have had a few of those this year. Nice road trip. Five of six works. Should have, could have swept.

Here's the rant:

Kosuke is the Japanese word for rally killer. This guy does not deserve to be playing right now. I'm sorry, Kosuke fans, and don't tell me to be patient. I'm right. Stinkodome needs to spend some time on the bench. At least agree with me on one thing -- he should NEVER EVER hit fifth. The guy, when he plays, should bat eighth. Period. Until he shows that he can once again hit major league pitching. I am tired of weak whiffs with runners on base.

Why am I so adamant about this? Because we have better options. If we didn't, I'd say leave him out there and let him work through it. Here's the deal. Against right handed pitchers, Fontenot should play second base. Every time. DeRosa or Reed Johnson in right field would be fine with me. Edmonds in center. Give Slappodome a start every now and again.

Against lefties? No question. Johnson in center, DeRosa in right. Play Cedeno at second. Or Fontenot. Or, Edmonds in center (he can left lefties) Johnson in right and DeRosa at second. Lou just needs to do this. I know it won't be popular with all our new Japanese baseball fans, but the goal here is to field the team with the best chance to win each and every game, and Fontenot gives us a much better chance. If Fontenot bats fifth yesterday, we aren't without runs into the seventh. Tell KKKKKosuke "Domo Arrigato. Chakuseki." (Thank you very much. Now sit down.)

Dempster was tough yesterday. So was Marshall on Saturday. He deserved better.

Saturday's umpire took a wrong turn and we got the guy who was supposed to be in Williamsport for the weekend, where the strike zone is apparently ankles to eyes. Called Fontenot out a pitch that wasn't even close. Everything about the LLWS is tremendous except the umpires.

Nice to see the Brewers and Cards lose yesterday. I don't think the Brewers play anyone with a winning record the rest of the way (except us) -- so we need to keep on winning every series.

Props to Reed Johnson on a great game, and to Aramis for a quick return (and big double.)

Have a great week everyone!

Go Cubs.

You may be referring to the line from the Chicago song..." Only the big inning, only just the start".
Incidentally I will be seeing Chicago (or what's left of them) tomorrow night, as they are playing my local county fair. How the mighty have fallen, but it was Styx the last 2 yrs. Sad commentary, the rock acts get mid week, country crap on the weekends.

Fuko could bat 8th in my book. Rest would be ok, I was surprised to see him in both ends of the double header.

5 of 6 on the road does work, but I agree, the 6th was there for the taking.

I have been curious aboot(canadian pronunciation) our dog loving center fielder's doggie loving. the desipio site mojo mentioned claims credit for it as a reference to an on deck activity in a cardinal game a few years ago. apparently there was no real dog banging incident. I'm disappointed, I was hoping Jody Davis would give me a scoop next camp.
Jimbo was on the pregame Sunday and is "soft spoken", but I guess he married a girl over the all star break. I could care less as long as he keeps hitting.

Saturdays ump rotated on the Hanley Ramirez "double" on Sunday where DeRosa blocked the bag and tagged him out by 3 feet. Strangely the call was blown.
Do you think some umps can't get their upbringings out of there blood?

First of all, I meant Genesis, the first book of the old Testament, not the band.

Secondly, I would totally rag on your hard for going to see a lame old band like Chicago, but I had to go see George Michael a few weeks ago with my wife, and am powerless to say anything to you about your musical choices.

Side note: I did see Smitty and Mark DeCarlo at the concent and they appeared to be having a lovely time. Don't tell Ralph.

Did you see the opening of Sunday Night Baseball last night.

Statue of Tony Gwinn out side of PETCO.

I swear the statue had an elastic waistband.

It's not the original statue. When the Brewers were there last week Sabathia and Fielder thought it was chocolate and ate it. This is a replacement statue until they can find enough metal to make another. Maybe when they find the Titanic.
