Thoughts for an off day

We have thirteen games to play this month -- and other than the Phillies they are all against sub-par teams this year. Reds, Nationals, Pirates and then the Phils. It's probably unrealistic to expect to run the month, but we should win at least 7 of 9 from those first three and then at least split with the Phils -- making us minimally 9 of 13 for the rest of this month. I'd prefer, and it is completely possible -- to see us go 11 or 12 wins of the 13. The Brewers only play ten more this month -- Astros, Pirates, Cards (for 2 games) and the Pirates again, so we shouldn't expect them to fold. They'll likely win 7 or 8 of the ten. Astros are still playing like they could be last year's Rockies and no has told them otherwise. Well, I'm telling them otherwise, but let's hope they don't give up until after the Brewer series. If we can actually spread our lead in the remaining part of this month, we will be in a very good place with September coming, because our last four series are not easy. Check it out. Brewers, Cards, Mets, Brewers are our last 13 games. Be nice to go into that with a seven or eight game lead, ya know?

Harden pitches today, so naturally I won't get to see it. I don't think I've ever actually SEEN him pitch.

Fukudome is starting and batting second, fifth and seventh. "Until I say otherwise" said Lou Piniella, last seen wearing a kimono while walking around the clubhouse saying "who the emporer? me the emporer!"

Memo to Ryan Theriot's base stealing wannabe legs: FASTER

Olympic beach volleyball. Wow.

Remember when we liked Bob Costas?

Nice to see that Smitty has returned. Or has he? That wasn't much of a post. Not very Smitteriffic.

Note to cb (the littlest Jim Edmonds fan) -- hang in there. We're all rooting for you. Miracles happen everyday.

Note to ann onomous: The titanic was found September 1st 1985.

I think we will gain ground in the last 2 weeks of the season. we have played some of our best ball against the better teams. My hope is that we don't lose ground playing the bottom feeders.

Though I also would like it over early, I'll be out of the country during the Hou, Mil, STL part of September and may have trouble following as closely as I would like (damn family caribbean scuba trip).

Smitty actually had a few current lines on his blog, maybe he's alive after all.

Yes, but have they retreived all the metal from it? I don't think so. And it could be put to good use making a Prince Tony Fatbathia statue.

What would you fill such a statue with? A solid casting would topple even the biggest of cranes.
Perhaps marshmallow filling or Princes broken bats.
Better yet, put Ryan Bruan inside and seal it tight so he can't get out.
