Can you calculate slugging percentage when you only hit singles?
Apparently both Punch AND Judy showed up in Mesa this week and slapped little grounders all over the field. Wish I could have been there. I'm guessing not a lot of gold gloves were given out at the end of it all. Contrary to the Willie Keeler philosophy, this weekend's motto was "hit it where they ARE."
Shirley, I jest. It sounded like a lot of fun. I've even come up with a new name for it. Extreme Baseball. What do you think?
Fantasy Camp is now in full swing. Ravage and Pepitone are off drinking warm beer, and the trainers are busy taking care of the rash of injuries from the opening night banquet. Yes, I miss that, too.
I have little to say of baseball significance. Still no Peavy. Still no Dunn. Yankees just keep signing pitchers left and right. Big wheels keep on rollin.

The Melee was fun, they do a nice job. We met some good baseball people, the spirit of commaraderie is there. Hey, we were playing baseball in awesome weather with good friends.
I think the highlight of the weekend was watching Dan DeCarlo score from first with a Myrnack strain, slower and slower with each strained step. Looked like he would score easily and then barely beat the throw with everyone yelling run, run- hilarious.
Bryan the endodontist hit a 2 out bases loaded 3 RBI triple back to the wall but only ended up on second base.
Smitty got all pissed off because on the 12th pitch of the inning a guy hit a fly ball over his head as Smitty was still getting out to his position in left field. Smitty thinks there are actual TV commercial breaks at fantasy camp and takes his time getting out to left field. Unfortunatley for Smitty they keep the game moving so all the old dudes don't stiffen up between innings so Smitty has a hard time being ready for pitch 1-15 of each inning.
John Salzeider pitched a beautiful 9 inning complete game to styme the Padre team. He was a crafty lefty and mixed his pitches up beeeutifully, he aslo got some nice hits, a true ballplayer amongst the fantasy campers.
Wavin Wendel Kim was on our team, 58 years old and he has alzheimers. He can still play, even in his golf shoes. Everyone watched out for him and let him know where he needed to be since he gets lost with his memory problems.
We had a great dinner at Don and Charlies with Jay Jay "spanky' from Cubs camp joining us, we had some fun chatting with Wendel about Dusty and the Cubs. We saw Bug Selig at dinner but he left before we had a chance to chat him up.
These guys hold weekend tournaments throughout the year, San Diego and Palm Springs are coming up in the next few months. The Melee is something we should do next year with more of us Cubs. Maybe we can do another local tourney if people are interested.
Peavy talks may resume with the new owners. Since Peavy had arm trouble last year and spent time on the DL going 10-11 I say it is too risky a move. Do we really need Prior Wood Deux?
Jake went 10 and 11 with an era of 2.85 which means the Padres didn't exactly support him offensively.
Leave my boy alone.
"Stint on the DL with ARM TROUBLE' is what troubles me, Mrs. Peavy, not his ERA.
