Good news, bad news

It's always good news to come from behind and win a game. That's the good news. Still a lot of fight in these guys, even in a game that really doesn't mean anything to us. That's a Lou Piniella influence, I think. Dusty would have mailed it in.

Bad news? Is Big Z okay? Was that just an issue of an ump who didn't match up well with Carlos' strike zone? Sometimes Carlos doesn't adjust. Or is there a bigger problem? Either way, I think that he has pitched himself into the number three starter spot.

Howry gives up a leadoff triple -- AND PITCHES OUT OF IT. That was cool.

This just in: Clay Aiken has revealed that he is gay. That's news?

Insignificant trivia tidbit for the day: In those 20 plus years as a terrific pitcher, Jim Palmer NEVER game up a grand slam. Why? He felt that there was never a good reason to give in to a hitter. Just because the bases may have been loaded or there were three balls on the batter -- he wasn't going to give in. What he said was "I'd rather walk in one, than give up four. One is easier to get back. If I lose this one, I'll get the next guy." I think there is something to be said for smart pitchers.

Really, Clay? Who'd have known? You hide it so well.

We need to take three of four from the Mets and the Brewers. That would be a nice way to finish the regular season, and make them fight for it. Mets finish with Philly, so they'd have to win to get it. Otherwise...Houston could snake them both out if they keep winning.

Samardzija is going to be good, but that wasn't wise to throw DelGado an 0-2 fastball. He'll learn from that mistake.

Very quietly, Aramis Ramirez has had one hell of a year.

more later, or not.

I was in Vegas...

Clay Aiken's pops is playing at the Hilton.

Barry Manhole.

Next up is Johhny Mathis.

Manhole has a gift shop. I almost bought Sherm a set of Manhole wine glasses.

Would have went with his eyes.

Cubs came back last night. Mets looked like a dejected Clay Aiken at a Girl Scout camp.

You know I would have mentioned the clay Aiken bombshell yesterday, but didn't want anyone to know that I know who he is. Thanks Sherm for making it OK to have horrible taste in (occasional)TV watching.

Yesterday I wasn't sure who I want to win the wild card, I think I figured it out last night. I was Ambivalent about the possibility of a lead off triple scoring in the bottom of the 9th. Thus by inference I must subconsciously want the Brewers to lose more than I want the Mets to lose. Though watching them Both lose is much more fun.
Although as Sutcliffe pointed out, Jim Wolf missed a few, not as many as big Z thought. His head may be better, but it is still a detriment to his success.

Did you notice that the Mets only scored with the bases loaded? 2 walks and a granny. Simple key...DON'T WALK THE FUCKING BASES LOADED.

Got to hope for adequate weather tonite, I can't see this game not mattering in the wild-card scenario, and thus would have to be made up. Also, only chance to win a hundred involves playing it.

Fitting that the season should end the way it did, with Howry giving up a meatball homerun, and DLee bouncing into his signature double play. I'd like to be wrong here, but I don't like this team's chances in a short series against anyone. They still can't manufacture runs against solid pitching, and Lou still counts on Howry to keep the ball less than 400 feet from home plate, which he is incapable of getting done.
