In defense of offense

Everyone is so "defense minded." Can't get Dunn. He's not a great fielder.

Let's review some of the best teams of the past few years. That Red Sox team has been pretty good, even though Manny is way "below average" defensively. They seemed to manage. Sure, he misplayed a few balls, but the opposing team had to change its entire pitching strategy because of him...

The Phillies did okay last year, even with Pat Burrell and Jason Werth in the outfield corners. Both "serviceable" fielders at best, but offensive players.

Brewers did okay -- even with two DH's in the OF -- Ryan Braun and Corey Hart.

Angels made the playoffs with Vlad Guerrero, who can't play outfield anymore on those knees or with that shoulder and Garrett Anderson, a 51 year old slacker with no arm.

My point is this -- if you can make an acquisition that makes you one of the most...if not THE most feared offense in the league? You do it. It doesn't matter that the D suffers a little. Our pitching is good enough to win games. A handful...and that's all it'll be...a handful of unearned runs aren't gonna kill us. We lost games last year because of our offense. Let's rectify that. Adam Dunn puts a huge lefty, power bat (with patience, by the way) into the middle of the lineup. Which only makes everyone else better, too.

And, Soriano, for all his defensive faults? Isn't THAT bad. He catches most balls. He's getting better out there the longer he plays OF. He has a quick and accurate arm.

Let's try it. One time. Get Dunn. And get it done. Consider the lineup.

Soriano
Theriot
Lee
Dunn
Ramirez
Soto
DeRosa
Whoever in CF (Fuku, Pie, Joey)
Pitcher

Huge difference over the 2008 lineup.

I am not against it...I am ambivalent. And I am sorry, Soriano sucks in left. And don't tell me about his assists. He gets a few assists because EVERYONE thinks they can run on him. Your lineup blows because he is still hitting leadoff. Not your fault, it would just be better with Joe G. at the top...Sori 3, then Dunn, Ramirez, Soto, then DPLee. Yes, I said it, DPLee is a #7 hitter.

No. No. No.

You can't hit Lee behind Soto for crying out loud...that's just mean.
You think he had a lot of DP's behind Theriot? Holy Cow!

How about Soriano two? (screw conventional wisdom -- what's it done for us the last 101 years?)

I'm just saying that hitters win more games with their bats than fielders LOSE with their gloves. As long as our infield defense is good and the outfield is serviceable...I'm okay with that to dramatically improve the offense. Note the use of the word dramatically rather than marginally. That's kind of important to my argument here.

Sosa wasn't a great fielder either, but it didn't come up much because he hit a boatload of fucking homeruns even though he struck out a lot. And Dunn WALKS a lot. Sammy didn't.

Ambilivant is a good description for me too. But, the "Big O" logic is hard to miss. Double entendre' intended.

Sorry I'm a little short today, we are moving the office. 300 feet to another building would be cake if not for the 6 inches of snow. It snows here for a week every couple of years, but now is that time. Damn global warming.
My DSL goes off later today for who knows how long but I'll try to check in from home.
Fucking Yankee, still not convincing me they win their division, but I like the way cash-man nonchalanted the negotiations.

Is there any better GM names in baseball than the Yanks CASHman and when the Pirates had Syd THRIFT.

I am with Badmojo, it may all be academic as long as Soriano hits leadoff. It's hard to win in October when you have an automatic out to start your line up. I pray to Allah that this is the year Lou pulls rank and drops him down.

If we must sign Dunn, how about:
1 TheRiot
2 Dunn
3 Fonzi
4 Ramirez
5 Soto
6 DPlee
7 Derosa/ Fontenot
8 PoopaPieRight

And when Biz Z pitches he canhit 8th. I think I guy who stays out of double plays and hits to the right side is a good number 2 candidate. Remember, he ruined Big Z hitting number 2, was it early 2007?

too many right handed bats in a row, D-Raker. Dunn, if signed, needs to hit 4 to split up the righties.
