Merry Christmas

That's it. Just Merry Christmas.

No baseball news. The hot stove is quiet for the day. It's been quiet for the Cubs all winter.

But have no fear. Jim and Lou have a plan. That plan? Well, if you must know (I must, I must) it's for Fukudome to be as good as he was in Japan. Yeah. That's the plan.

And for Dempster and Lilly to each win 17 games again.

And for Feliz NaviPie to hit like he did in the minors in the bigs.

And for DLee to return to his MVP, pre-owie wrist injury self and hit .330/40/120 while playing flawless gold glove caliber first base.

For Mark DeFonta to combine for 35 dingers while playing rightsecond against leftrighties.

For Big Z to win the big Cy.

For sunshine and the Cubbies in the world series. (thanks to raker for that one)

And so the hot stove simmers for another day. But for now, we have Christmas -- the day when anything is possible!

Merry Christmas to all of you.

Sherm

unrelated side note: did television kill the name Gilligan for future generations or has it just always been a poor choice?

Merry Christmas

I have some business for all interested. I spoke with the organizer of the Melee in Mesa wood bat fantasy camp baseball tournament. A baseball tournament open to alumni of fantasy campers put together in the spirit of commaraderie and baseball. This years tourney is the weekend prior to the Cubs fantasy camp Fri, Sat and Sund with a golf tourney on Thursday- Raker don't golf well-. Anyways, he OK us bringing players who haven't been to a fantasy camp as long as we keep the spirit of baseball commaraderie and not looking to stack up. The 3 DeCarlo's can play, although Mark would miss a day. The cost is $300 per person which includes 4 games, catered lunch Friday and Saturday and a Saturday night banquet. They have discounted rates at the Arizona Golf Resort in Mesa. If we organize a team they need to know the first week in January. If you would like to go send me a check for $300 and I will organize our roster and send the entire fee in with one check, which is what they request. You can learn more about the tournament by googling 'Melee in Mesa'. Who would like to play?
You folks already signed up for Cubs camp just need to come in a few days early and maybe we can tap Randy for a few extra names if we need to fill out the roster. We need 11 or 12 players assuming we have 4-6 pitchers in the bunch.

Who is in???????

FYI- I got my hand slapped at my childrens school, a Christian School, for writing Xmas instead of Christmas. "You are Xing out Christ when you do that." I found that interesting since as public policy goes we struggle with the meaning of the Establishment Clause in our Constitution. To me it is simple case of Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion. No offense taken and none meant, just thought it interesting for those of you who keep up with these public policy debates.
Merry Christmas.
