Met note

I'm not thrilled to see the Mets suddenly have such an outstanding bullpen. That was their only real weakness last year, and now they go get K-Rod (for not THAT much money) and JJ Putz (for minor leaguers who didn't figure into their immediate plans anyhow) -- suddenly the Mets are playing seven inning games. Why didn't the Cubs think that way? Could have kept Woody and done just that.

Jake Peavy. Will we or won't we? I don't care that much anymore. Just make the deal. Or not. And then make a different deal. Quit dragging it out. And don't overpay the stupid Padres, all right?

I think Milton Bradley will be a Cub. Good thing or bad thing? Maybe a little fire is exactly what the clubhouse needs.

Gotta like Roy Oswalt. He's begging the Astros to get more pitching, and will take a salary restructure to make it happen. Houston should trade him to a real team.

The Yankees say that they want Sabathia, Burnett and Lowe. Add that to Wang, and that's a pretty fearsome foursome. Good series with us if we get Peavy, huh?

Question of the day. Will any Cub pitcher win 20 games in 2009? If so...who?

more later. It's late and I just got in. To Charlotte. The city. Not the woman. Stop it.

I think KRod is being way overpaid. Only $3m more than the contract the Angels offered him that he snuffed at, arrogant.

Poopadome, DPlee and Yosh Kawana for Peavy.

Sabathia's arm will fall off in spring training due his 8 complete games in 6 days with the Brewers last September. The Yanks are hoping Sabbathia gives them as much as Kevin Brown, Jason Schmidt and Barry Zito gave their new clubs. One can only hope at this point.

It would be the Yanks history to buy a big name arm and have him spend most of the time on the DL. Let's hope history repeats it self.
The Mets suffer from the same problem the Yanks do, they exist in New York. East Coast, A- train all those things the Smarter folks move away from. OK, they occasionally win it all, but at what cost. I get fliers in the mail weekly from headhunters offering enormous salaries to move to a location I would find stifling. When the big quake hits California, I think it's the rest of the country that slides beneath sea level, but I digress.

Sure sound like we will get Peavey, expect an announcement today. I will need to see what it costs before deciding if I am happy with it.

There was a fun calculator on ESPN.com yesterday that would show you how long it takes CC to earn your salary, mind boggling, it was much less than 9 innings for me.
Milton Bradley??? isn't that some sort of a board game? Head case, but tallented head case, I don't care, sign him if he's cheap. A goofball personality is better than a pernicious one (see J Kent).

Oswalt should go to the Yanks, I smell a breaking down arm.

Say hi to Charlotte, the mistress, not the city.

looks like the Peavy deal is dead. If it cost Derosa AND prospects, it would have been too much. The Trib is bankrupt, the state's politics are morally bankrupt, and next year will be #101 in a row. I can only ask, why not Cuban?
