Font and Fonz

Nice job. Fontenot had a terrific at bat in the tenth, as did Soriano. Fontenot needs the at bats to stay sharp - he's not a pinch hitter by nature -- but don't bat him two when he's not in the groove. That was my point the other day. I'm happy for him...he needed that.

Did we go too long with Big Z? Is 130 pitches too many? Comments?

from Nashville...

from a coach's perspective, pitch count is a number. Starting pitchers should generally be able to go to 120 by this point in the season, and Z is a hoss, and in his prime, so its not too bad. Mare than 150 would be Dusty-esque. Now Z gets 4 days off, they can manipulate his side throwing schedule if need be. Its better to have him throw 130 once in 5 days than to ask Howry, Marmol, and Wood to throw 25 every day. Remember that they have to get loose in the pen, then throw their 20-30 to get through an inning.

Well known to you is that starting pitchers of yore regularly threw longer and more often than today. See the article on the 1908 Cubs earlier this week on the Cubs website, where 2 pitchers were noted to have 68 decisions between them in a 154 game season.
Modern pitchers are molly coddled pussies. Z is large in stature as well as psyche.
I'm taking to calling Soriano "Alf".
I'm nolonger frightened when Alf comes up in a crucial situation.

Why Alf?

Alf is even lazier to enunciate than Fonzie. It's obviously the first syllable f his first name. And I kind of liked the cat eating alien from the 80's show of the same name.

before you chastise me....it was one game. He had a great game today. Still don't like him. But we lose without him. Today. Shit.

Un-fucking believable!

I had cases all afternoon and checked in after the first one when we were down 7 zip, oh well you have to lose now and then, Imagine my surprise when I decided to check on the damage after my last case and saw not only a victory, but a dog fucker led one at that.
You are correct that it is only one game, but a memorable one (today is my 50th BD).
Go dog fuckers!
