Today

Props to Sean Marshall who absolutely was a man today and shut down the Cards. Great job. I'd have left him in for another inning, but Cotts did the job, so whatever.

We hit, we pitched and we won. Should have been a sweep.

Great article today in the local paper about Roy Halladay. Has gotten 21 or more outs in like 90 percent of the games he starts. Lou seems to favor the six inning start, which I think is nuts, but hopefully will save our starters arms for later. Or something.

I do not retract this morning's comments. We need to add a piece or two to this team to get over the top and win this thing. Speculation is that Milwaukee has the farm to go get Sabathia. I would really hate to see that happen.

Today, I am just happy to end up with two of three. Should have been a sweep, but I need to let that go. We have nine more with the Cardinals and ten with the Brewers -- so this should be one hell of a fall baseball season.

Go Cubs.

So the Brewers got Sabathia, and didn't really give up THAT much to get him...LaPorta can hit, but can't play defense anywhere and he only hits for power. He is a young Russell Branyan. The other two "low level" minor leaguers will be nobodies.

You can't tell me that the Cubs couldn't have offered a better package (Samardzija, Pie, Gallagher, Rich Hill, Veal, Murton, Vitters, etc.)...Doug Melvin and Gord Ash are just a bunch smarter, and the Brewers are an ASS LOAD more motivated to win now, because they don't have the fan base the Cubs do. The Brewers can easily afford to give away prospects, as they are LOADED, especially at AA. They need to win now for the franchise to make money...the Cubs, unfortunately for us, do not. Mike Maddux is 10X the pitching coach Chummers is as well.

If you don't believe that HGH can be beneficial to ballplayers, check out the throws by Ludwick and Ankiel over the past 2 days. There hasn't been an outfield arm like that in Chicago since Jesse Barfield left high school in Joliet.

So the question is, who now? Other than Harden (who ain't Sabathia)there isn't anyone else even real intriguing. No way you can convince me that Z and Dempster are anywhere near as good as Sheets and Sabathia. Add in the placebo effect and a certain confidence boost, and the Brewers are now clearly the team to beat...and the 3 best teams in the NL are in the Central. We are a pitcher short again. If Torres continues to get the job done as Brewer closer, we are screwed.

Awesome job Hendry...the Cubs pick up Edmonds, (with Murton Pie, EPat, and Ward already here), the Brewers get a Cy Young winner. Maybe the White Sox can get to the series this year.
