Not much to add

To yesterday's commentary -- although I agree with myself that we will now go and overcompensate by trading away too much for too little to convince ourselves that we didn't miss out on Sabathia. Look for Billy Beane to fleece us.

Who would I like to see us trade for? It's a short list, with Sabathia gone. I would not trade for a low rotation starter as we are good in those spots. I'd go after any of the following:

1. Roy Halladay -- we all know that Toronto isn't going to the playoffs. Once they realize it, will they part with the face of their franchise? He's a stud. Goes 7 or more innings in almost every start.

2. Roy Oswalt -- doubt that the Asstros would trade within the division, but stranger things have happened. He'd be a perfect complement to our rotation. Great pitcher's attitude.

3. Jeremy Guthrie from the Orioles. I just like this guy. He's underrated, and can be very dominating.

Otherwise, unless Seattle is selling Felix Hernandez or San Diego decides to give Jake Peavy his freedom...hold tight and let's see what happens. Don't overreact to Milwaukee's deal. But, oh wait...we're the Cubs. We'll overreact all right. Watch.

Have a great week...I'll be in the city of wind. No, not Paris. Not that kind of wind.

JS

Oh...I thought of another...Tim Hudson from the Braves. Having a good year. Good, smart pitcher, and we've always traded well with the Braves. Again, they have to face the fact that they are going nowhere.

1. Halladay: pipe dream. No way the Jays give him up for less than the farm and all the cattle.

2. Oswalt: Another piper. You are right, not going to deal him in the division. For the record, I'd love either of these first 2 guys.

3. Guthrie: Intrigiung, but not that good...not even sure he's better than Marshall or Gallagher at this stage.

4. Felix Hernandez: pretty much sucks

5. Peavy: Frothy frozen daquiries in hell before the Pads make this deal. Maybe if Prior becomes their new dominating #1 starter.

6. Hudson: Might be your best idea since Bonds. At what cost, though?

7. Why is Harden not on this list? He is the guy I feel the Cubs are most likely to end up with.

8. Thanks for sparing me the Fox crap...that guy sucks.

9. I am sleep deprived.

Let's look at the redbirds. A team winning much more than most of us think they should. Only a couple of feared batters and not a single pitcher anyone would consider a front of the rotation guy. But they are getting it done.

Last year's Rockies. No pitchers you really wanted to miss in a series, but they won more than expected.

My point, if any, there is more to winning than a line up of studs (see: Yankees). There must be something to team chemistry. I favor standing pat (not lilipat) and not adding or subtracting, though I would like to see Murton go somewhere he can play regularly.

But standing pat is not what the Cubs usually do, and with mixed results. I also expect we will overpay for a middle of the road starter who will help us only if we have injuries or if Marquis does a second half funk. An insurance policy you might say.

One last note on Sabfatthingya, The Cubs didn't have what the Indians wanted, specifically a corner infielder or outfielder with power and a couple of promising arms. Hoffpauir would likely be the closest, and then find the spare arms that were acceptable. I think Hendry tried, but didn't have the sugar to satisfy the Cleveland taste buds. Hopefully it works out poorly for both the teams involved. Feel free to nail my ass to a cross for my ignorance.
