they're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Hey, I saw the old Cubs last night. The ones who won't take a pitch. Hopefully, it was just for one game.

Afterthoughts --

1. Seemed like Lilly had first and third every inning. Why start him in the 8th? Especially with Giles coming up?

2. Apparently we cannot hit a change up -- even when we know it's coming.

3. What's Trevor Hoffman now? 53? Here's a tip. He throws a change. All the fucking time. His fastball? It's a change, too.

4. I'll take 9 of 10 anytime. Nice run of games and wins. But we are better than that.

Time to start winning again. Tonight.

I also will take 9 of 10. In some ways an occasional loss takes the pressure of "the streak" off. We were lucky it was only 2 to 1. The Pads had many scoring opportunities.
I knew what Trevor was going to throw to Soriano and Lee, and after the first pitch to each, I also knew the outcome. I assume Lee knew what was coming also (not so sure about Alf) but there is more to hitting than knowing what's coming (else we would all be raking off of the machine).
Supposedly there are 50 games a year that you are going to lose no matter what you do, this was one of those.
Move on to LA. See Badmojo for tickets.

unfortunately, the beerers also won 9 of their last ten.

I agree with all of what you say, but perhaps Soto was overmatched - he's way too free a swinger to face Maddux and I'd have hit Reed J. in the ninth instead of Fontenot. Forget the lefty/righty thing sometimes. Johnson is more experienced against a guy like Hoffman, er, Trevor, as you call him.

I thought Fuku would have better cuts. He should try swinging the bat before he gets halfway to first base. Or get a much longer fucking bat.

Zambrano should have pinch hit, now that I think about it.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to why Theriot didn't steal 2nd on the FIRST PITCH to Lee? Smitty could steal 2nd off Barrett, especially with Hoffman's huge leg kick. A runner on 2nd changes everything in a one run game. Stupid, bad coaching. Theriot steals that base 98 out of 100 times.

while we're ranting about our first loss in ten games...how about why Theriot didn't steal THIRD when ARam was up. One out. Maddux and Barrett. Taste of America could'vee stolen third.

That grounder in the hole scores him instead of freezing him at second and then it's two - one.

Chew on that!

I also thought the riot should have stolen, Smitty as well, but Taste? that might be pushing it.
Watch Ichiro and Godzilla swing, They are also down the line as contact is made. hard to argue with a .300 ave even if it looks like something Hollywood eats in an Arkansas pig fucking festival.

which reminds me. Say this 3 time fast.

I might be a fig plucker
or a fig plucker's son
but I'll keep plucking figs
'til the fig pluckings done.
