Dempster, DeCarlo and other detritus

Sure, yesterday was an off day for the Cubbies, but apparently not for the rest of you...lots of commentary.

Mike DeCarlo wants it noted that Bad (Night of Sleep) Mojo did not have the wherewithal to predict that Ryan Dempster would be able to successfully make the move from the pen to the rotation. May I remind you that none of us did. I was the one who told you that I'd read that Dempster was going through a very aggressive offseason conditioning program to get back into shape as a starter, although for Smitty is now on the DL for pounding himself on the back for that. Maybe you read it on Smitty's blog, too. Right. Maybe it was next to the picture of Carmen Fanzone's wife. Maybe not. Maybe it was back in April when he told us "that farts linger longer in Denver?" Nope. Not then either. Oh, that's right, he never mentioned it. Check out his blog. He mentions Podsednik every fifteen minutes ("he's in great shape, he's running better than ever, the White Sox didn't give him a chance, he wants to be a Cub, he's cuuuuute!") but never, ever mentions Ryan Dempster. So here it is. The reemergence of the Demp is a nice surprise that we didn't see coming. Thank goodness, because he has nutted up huge this year and we've needed it. Mojo was wrong when he called Demp a shitbag. Dr. DeCarlo was wrong when he said that it was harder to rake the Jugs, Jr. model 400z than hit off real pitching. Smitty was wrong to stalk Podsednik. I was wrong when I suggested that we should pull the trigger and trade for Brian Roberts. (Thank God they didn't listen to me. I swear I didn't know how good Sean Gallagher was then.)

So we can all be wrong from time to time. That's the point. And which of us predicted that Marquis would be any good this year? It's time to put aside our differences. Can't we all just get along?

On to other things. Let's kick the crap out of Baltimore.

I hope that Mark had a very happy birthday yesterday. I know that I did -- although it was odd. I shared my birthday not only with Mark DeCarlo, but also with my Dad, who most of you know is no longer with us (lost him last year around this time) and he and I had this particular dialogue every year on that day which now lives on only in my mind. Anyway, Happy Birthday, Dad.

I was also wrong about our Cub announcers. For the record. I didn't like them at first. Still not sure about Len, but I have grown to appreciate Brenly. He's good. He's honest. No wonder they ran him out of Arizona.

Have a great day, oh loyal readers...

more later. Or not.

Outstanding, a little to diplomatic. Nice blog and Happy Birthday to you and your dad. It is nice to have good memories of loved ones.

Is that Docraker commenting on Sherms blog? Awesome.

I think I can put to rest any controversy about who predicted what. There are archives on this blog. Go back to March 27th and look at what one prognosticator said about the then upcoming season. The accuracy is almost spooky. I was right on 3 Items and the other 2 are still possible.
Check it out.

I was to be fair aslo advocating for Brian Roberts. He's doing well, but I like keeping our pieces at the moment. They may need to go for a pitcher ( Carsten Charles S. comes to mind).

Len and Bob do grow on you, but I still thing Steve Stone was the best in the 40+ years I've been watching.

As long as the season is about to begin, I thought I would leave a few predictions for posterity ( in case anyone ever asks).

1 Ryan Dempster will be a Stud. He will have the best numbers on the staff by the All-Star break.

1a Smitty will claim to have foreseen this, but will get his glowing comments about some wanker named Podsednik instead.

2 Fukodme also a stud, Pie, not so much.

3 A former player of a team we hate will become a Cub and thru great play, win over Cub fans and the aspca.

4 Steve Bartman will throw out (and spike into the ground) the first pitch of this years World Series in Wrigley Field.

5 The drought will end.

THAT IS SPOOKY. If he'd said that the guy from the former team we hate fucks dogs, I'd be calling bullshit for inside information.

Is 69 Fan really Dionne Warwick? Are Doc Mike and Smitty really former "Solid Gold Dancers?" Did Podsednik shun one of Sherm's legendary shower-time advances? Is Murnyak's e-mail only accepting selectively titled material referring to "strain?" Am I the only one surfing the net for Carsten Charles porn today? Just his name makes my nuts swell. Well...his name and going 8+ months without sex.

Nice try, Doc, but the time is stamped on the bottom of the post. Kudos for the attempt, but as the official scorer, I am giving it defensive indifference.

I swear, the only change I made today was to correct spelling errors that I was prone to some time ago, otherwise it was the original post.

Now then, I have some nice swam... I mean oceanfront property in Florida for sale.
